HAIL THE CASSOULET CHAMPIONS
hey came, they cooked, they conquered. Let us honor the victors of past Cassoulet Wars. Since 2014, this epic D’Artagnan event was held in New York City annually (and virtually in 2021). Over 20 chefs would bring their best cassoulet and dole out bowls of ambrosia, hoping to earn the top title. A panel of eminent judges blind-tasted each cassoulet and chose a victor in two categories: the truest and most traditional cassoulet and the most daring and inventive cassoulet. The guests also voted a champion for The People’s Choice. Many prizes were given: wine, Armagnac, a trip to France, and beautiful trophies. We hope to return to live events next cassoulet season. Until then, we invite you to reflect on the heroes of past bean battles.
Cassoulet War 2014
Our first competition was organized just to have a little winter fun. Little did we know that a tradition was being born.
Cassoulet War 2015
After the hot competition of 2014, the chefs clamored to have another meeting on the field of battle.
Cassoulet War 2016
Peace reigned in the realm for one year. Chefs retreated to their corners to study cassoulet recipes and strategize.
Cassoulet War 2017
Competition resumed with such vigor that the judges named 2 winners in each category. Even the guests voted a tie for The People’s Choice.
Cassoulet War 2018
Cassoulet War tends to draw local combatants, but 2018 saw chefs flying in from around the nation to show off their version.
Cassoulet War 2019
By 2019 some chefs had become regular competitors (we have two-time champions!) and returned to joust once more.
Cassoulet War 2020
In February, D’Artagnan planned a week of events for our 35th anniversary. The 7th Cassoulet War was the final gathering - in more ways than one.
Cassoulet War 2021
For the first virtual Cassoulet War, we gathered videos of chefs sharing tips and making cassoulet at home. Those chefs met on the Zoom ring for a live debate and discussion with audience participation. That Cassoulet War was better attended than ever before! Did you miss it? Watch all the videos and prepare for the next Cassoulet War.
