These juicy, all-natural buffalo burgers are a healthy alternative to beef, since they are higher in protein and lower in fat, cholesterol and calories. Buffalo meat offers a sweet flavor that is totally addictive.
D’Artagnan buffalo are raised on vast pastures in Canada and the U.S. to our exacting specifications on a 100% vegetarian diet, in a clean and natural environment, without the use of chemicals, hormones, antibiotics or steroids. These large indigenous animals are technically called bison, but we use the more common name buffalo. Our buffalo are raised with minimal human interaction, and are left alone to graze on grasses as they have for many centuries.
Buffalo is the original free-range, good-for-you red meat; leaner than beef, pork, turkey and even chicken, and never greasy or gamey. This leanness allows it to cook quicker than beef, without shrinking. Buffalo offers nutritionally-dense red meat with 25% to 30% more protein than beef, 25% less cholesterol and about half the calories. It is also high in iron content and possesses a sweet flavor.
Our buffalo burgers are minimally processed with no artificial ingredients. Because they are so lean, prepare buffalo burgers rare to medium rare, and cook at lower temperatures than you would beef burgers. For grilling, brush the burgers lightly with oil and use the cooler part of the grill. Though buffalo burgers are perfectly delicious with just a salt and pepper rub, try to spice up their rich flavor with a little salsa or chipotle ketchup and caramelized onions. Our Big Bleu Burger with smoky hickory bacon and your favorite blue cheese makes for a satisfying meal.
