Purchasing Manager (Union, NJ)

Key Responsibilities

  • 1. Manage the purchasing of a wide range of perishable proteins, as well as associated packaging materials, supporting 30+ NA and International manufacturing facilities

  • 2. Develop and implement regional ‘Best Practices’ for supply security, cost savings development, supplier quality management and address the needs of a global supply chain

  • 3. Develop alternate sources of supply to foster competition with incumbent supply base

  • 4. Support the Global Category Team Leader in developing and implementing a 3-5 year strategic roadmap for Industrial Packaging with implementation in NA

  • 5. Champion cost savings initiatives for respective categories, meeting year over year cost savings targets

  • 6. Liaison with appropriate Packaging Engineers for their respective categories to drive out inefficiencies at the factory level

  • 7. Partner with suppliers to gain access to innovation while developing strategic alignment between the supply base and multiple NA distribution centers

  • 8. Drive regional working capital initiatives that align with the respective category

  • 9. Utilize strategic influence skills to align key stakeholders within the regional, within the function and across the sub business unit

  • 10. Build a team environment and collaboration culture

Desired Experience and Skills

  • 1. Bachelor’s degree in business, statistics or engineering
  • 2. Experience as a department manager in purchasing
  • 3. Certified Professional Purchasing manager
  • 4. 10 years’ experience with perishable purchasing
  • 5. Strong knowledge in ERP purchasing modules and systems
  • 6. Tier one or two supplier purchasing professional experience
  • 7. Vast understanding of supplier network, supply chain and commodity purchasing
  • 8. Experience in a mid-sized organization with multiple locations
  • 9. Experience in all levels of Supply Chain (examples: inventory, operations, logistics)
  • 10. Lean manufacturing and/or SAP experience

Skill Set Requirements

  • 1. High school degree
  • 2. Minimum five (5) years’ experience with perishable purchasing
  • 3. Working knowledge of strategic purchasing principles, material management and end to end supply chains
  • 4. Analytical skills with comprehensive knowledge of MRP system
  • 5. Experience with suppliers complying with all corporate and ethical standards
  • 6. Effective interpersonal skills, strong communicator with a high attention to detail
  • 7. Solid knowledge of consignment activities and vendor inventory management
  • 8. Experience with supply change management
  • 9. Strong negotiation and presentation skills
  • 10. Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously while meeting timelines as required (multi-tasking ability)
  • 11. Strong problem solving skills with the ability to build a sustainable business case for a proposed solution
  • 12. Capacity to analyze, quantify, and act upon purchasing related analytics with ability to customize create new metrics to optimize performance against the business plan
  • 13. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • 14. Desire and ability to work in a fast paced collaborative team environment
